GMIS Bali is authorized to offer the international Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme (IB PYP).
The PYP (Primary Years Programme) is one of 3 programmes offered by the International Baccalaureate and is designed for students aged 3 to 12 years. It focuses on all-round growth of a growing child, touching the heart as well as mind, and encompassing social; physical; emotional and cultural needs along with academic development.
The PYP draws on research and best practices from a range of national systems with a wealth of knowledge and experience from international schools to create a relevant, engaging, challenging and significant educational framework for children.
The curriculum is a balanced blend of 5 essential elements: concepts, knowledge, skills, attitudes and action. The knowledge component is developed through inquiries into six trans-disciplinary themes of global significance: Who We Are, Where We Are in Place and Time, How We Express Ourselves, How the World Works, How We Organize Ourselves and Sharing the Planet. This is supported and balanced by skills and knowledge from the 6 subject areas: Language, Mathematics, Science, Social Studies, PSPE (Personal, Social and Physical Education) and the Arts, which foster all-round development of the child.
The figure above is a representation of how a young learner (supported by teachers and parents) is first of all enveloped in the IB learner profile, and how via the six major subject areas of mathematics, arts, languages, social studies, PSPE and science, the five elements of knowledge, skills, attitudes, action, and concepts are then presented to that learner. The outer headings like “Who we are”, and “Sharing the planet” are the backbones of planning the written curriculum and encapsulate the various subject knowledge within them.
GMIS Bali is a candidate school* for the Primary Years Programme. This school is pursuing authorization as an IB World School. These are schools that share a common philosophy—a commitment to high quality, challenging, international education that GMIS Bali believes is important for our students.
*Only schools authorized by the IB organization can offer any of its three academic programmes: the Primary Years Programme (PYP), the Middle Years Programme (MYP), or the Diploma Programme. Candidate status gives no guarantee that authorization will be granted.
